Peritoneal Dialysis in the Management of Congestive Heart Failure Refractory to Treatment

Abstract

Peritoneal dialysis can be a therapy for the short-term management of refractory congestive heart failure, and fluid removal. At the same time it can serve as a long-term ambulatory management either as a palliative therapy or as a bridge to definitive surgery or transplantation. A reduction in hospitalization rates and an improvement in functional capacity can also be expected under peritoneal dialysis.
